Summary:

Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, the Teacher will plan, implement, and assess a language-rich, development appropriate program for four year olds which follows the Rochester City School District Universal Pre-k, NYS Standards and the guidelines of Ibero Childhood Services.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with Ibero staff, staff from related agencies, the Rochester City School District and parents. 
  2. Performs initial assessment of children to determine child's progress and update educational programs accordingly using the COR.
  3. Communicates with parents periodically to inform them about children's progress.
  4. Organizes and maintains area to insure that the environment is pleasant, safe and clean.
  5. Prepares environment to enhance children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.
  6. Ensures that classroom meets required rating scale criteria.
  7. Follows Ibero's policies and procedures, NYS regulations, the Rochester City School District, Universal Pre-K curriculum and regulations.
  8. Maintain daily attendance records, weekly lesson plans and other required documents as assigned.
  9. Communicates to the Education Specialist concerns regarding absenteeism, suspicion of child abuse and neglect and/or maltreatment, developmental delays, or inappropriate behavior among the children.
  10. Informs parents and Health and Disability Advocate of any health and/or disability concerns regarding children.
  11. Prepares reports as requested.
  12. Attends parent-teacher conferences.
  13. Make home visits when necessary.
  14. Plans and implements lesson that address group and individual children's needs.
  15. Provides leadership to the Pre-K team.
  16. Assigns tasks to Paraprofessional, Break Aide, and classroom "Abuelos" completes work in a timely manner.
  17. Attends team meetings, Rochester City School District training's parent meetings, scheduled staff meetings, training's and center events as assigned.
  18. Keeps knowledge of children and families confidential.
  19. Continues to develop professionally.
  20. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Education Specialist and/or delegates.

Authority:

This position holds a relatively high degree of independence within the framework of the agency's policies and procedures. The individual must be resourceful and able to display initiative and understanding of management systems and interpersonal relations.

 Skills and Abilities:

  1. Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  2. New York State teaching certification.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of child development, early childhood education and appropriate discipline methods.
  4. Experience working with preschoolers.
  5. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
  6. Ability to perform all physical duties required by the supervision of the young child such as walking, running, jumping skipping, hopping, etc. Lifting up to 40 pounds.
  7. Ability to speak positively and respectfully to children.
  8. Must obtain a physical exam w/TB test every two years, fingerprinting, and State Clearance.
  9. A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may be considered.

Physical Demands:

The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 40 lbs. And frequent sitting.
