Summary:

Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, the Break Aide will perform the duties assigned to her by the Teacher or Assistant. Works in all of Ibero's child care programs, mainly during classroom staff breaks.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes and maintains good working relationship with Ibero staff, staff from related agencies, community representative and parents.
  • Assist Teachers and/or Assistants in implementing a developmentally appropriate program.
  • Follows Ibero's policies and procedures, NYS regulations and Early Head Start standards.
  • Provides a loving, warm nurturing environment.
  • Speaks positively and respectfully to children.
  • Supervises children during activities and at meal time using family style dining.
  • Quickly speaks and guides children for a calm transition.
  • Maintains the classroom to insure that the environment is pleasant and safe.
  • Assists with minor cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Completes all work in a timely manner.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, parent meetings, trainings and day care center events as assigned.
  • Keeps knowledge of children and families confidential.
  • Continues to develop professionally.

 

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or delegates.

Authority:

Employee must exercise initiative in the implementation of lesson plans as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, CDA preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, early childhood education and appropriate discipline methods.
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers or preschoolers.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to speak positively and respectfully to children.
  • Ability to work alternative work schedules to support program/parent evening and weekend activities.
  • Ability to perform all physical duties required by the supervision of the young child such as walking, running, jumping, skipping, hopping, stooping, squatting, bending, lifting (up to 40 pounds), reaching and climbing stairs, etc...
  • Must obtain a physical exam w/TB test, fingerprinting, and State Clearance.
  • A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may be considered.

Physical Demands:

The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 30 lbs. And frequent sitting.
