Summary:

Under the supervision of the Division Director, the Respite Care Provider will provide temporary relief for families who care for individuals with developmental disabilities. The RCP helps reduce family stress, thereby helping to preserve the family unit and support family stability.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide relief for families with disabilities through caring for their family member.
  • You will be required to accommodate the families' needs, which may include household chores and meal preparation.
  • Have ability to set limits, supervise and maintain a safe and positive environment. Be able to engage individual in a manner appropriate to his or her skill level.
  • Be able to initiate and receive verbal communications between managers, clients and parents regarding how to deliver service and resolve issues.
  • Have some form of contact which we may use to contact you or leave you messages. A cellular phone or pager, which you wear at all times, is acceptable.
  • Maintains appropriate and up-to-date documentation for each client, to include, but not limited to, Respite Care notes and/or Clinical Progress Notes. Behavior Data Sheets, Program Travel Logs, Progress Data Reports, Progress notes and Monthly Summaries.
  • Attends agency and staff education and training sessions as requested by the Assistant Director or Director of the DD Division.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings to evaluate and promote effectiveness of both the individual program and the general program.
  • As a mandated reporter you have a legal duty to report any unusual situations suspicions or witnessing of abuse involving consumers, to the Director of the DD Division in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for calling three (3) hours in advance if not reporting for scheduled shift.
  • Adheres to agency program policies and procedures.
  • Abides by the Code of Conduct provisions.
  • other duties as assigned by supervisor

Authority:

This position exercises considerable initiative and independence in setting goals, activities and resident reviews. The RCP must maintain a professional and responsible work environment for the program.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
  3. Six months Human Service experience.
  4. Valid NYS driver's license.
